tired of new year’s goals that don’t stick? here’s your total game changer for an incredible 2020

October 15, 2019 · In: goals, inspiration

This post contains affiliate links, but is unsponsored, and opinions are my own. Thank you for your support!

Already set on PowerSheets? Go below to get the details for Launch Day – October 16, 2019!

First of all, how much do the words “goal planning game changer” make you laugh? Be honest.

About two years ago, I definitely snorted at the thought. Even though people seemed to be really amped about those PowerSheet things, my initial reaction was, “yeah, right.” It was hard to believe enthusiastic reviews for just another planner. And the price tag was a lot to swallow.

Meanwhile I’ve always been a fan of the fresh start of a new year. Making goals and plans seems exciting after the holidays, as the old year comes to a close.

But approaching 2019, I couldn’t even remember what my goals were at the beginning of 2018. Or 2017, or 2016, and on and on.

Usually around March, all my idealistic goals dwindle down to nothing. And by December, I feel no closer to my dreams and plans than I was the year before.

This past November, it’s true, my thrifty self waffled back and forth about the price.

But when it came down to it, I was sick of seeing no change. Somewhere in my mind, I realized that if I wanted to see change by next November, I had to do something big. So I clicked “Checkout” and called it a day.

I am now a once-unbeliever-turned-raving-fan.

Where I used to feel failure year after year around March, I saw progress and victory this year like never before. I’ve had grace with myself when needed, and found practicals to hone in more on my lofty aims.

I can point to a page and tell you where I was then, and the steps I’ve made forward. I have a good idea of where I want to be when I’m 80, my goals are clearer than ever, and I’m actually moving towards them. It feels amazing.

Why? Why are 2020 PowerSheets worth the hype?

cultivate what matters PowerSheets 2020 review - do powersheets work - goal planning tips - using powersheets - powersheets cost - new year's goals that stick - how to achieve your goals - faith and family blog - What You Make It blog

There are several keys to successfully achieving your goals. PowerSheets address all of them.

Motivation

When starting your PowerSheets, I recommend grabbing a mug of your favorite hot beverage and your favorite pen, and filling out the initial questionnaire, which acts like a personal life coaching session. It takes more than a few minutes, but it is absolutely worth the time and effort.

It includes a review of where you are and how you feel certain areas of your life are doing currently. Then it probes into your priorities – where you want to be when you’re 80, and what goals will get you there.

I found that looking at the bigger picture helped me learn how to say “no” to the things that aren’t serving me, and “yes” to what is going to help move me forward.

Accountability

PowerSheets doesn’t only help you identify practical and doable next steps. It also gives you the opportunity to review monthly and quarterly how you’re doing, and if you’re still working towards your goals. I haven’t found another planner that does this. And just writing my goals made a huge difference for me.

Also, when you purchase, you sign up for Lara Casey’s Cultivate What Matters newsletter, which brings monthly helpful coaching tips and articles that keep drawing you back to your goals (plus offer the encouragement you need).

Lastly, be sure to join the PowerSheets community on Facebook. I wish I had joined sooner! What an encouraging group of people to bounce off ideas and inspiration.

Inspiration

I can’t applaud enough Lara’s perspective on goal setting. It’s not just one-way, straight-line thinking. It leaves SO MUCH room for transitions, challenges, shortcomings. She constantly draws you back to your overarching goal, and encourages you to cultivate the small things that bring big change.

As you work through the planner, you’ll find encouraging thoughts and even a whole sheet of fun stickers that make the process even more fun. (Warning: if you’re reflective like me, you might find it fun anyway.)

Practical Steps

Again, part of the PowerSheets process is helping you break down your lofty goals (like “getting in shape” and “growing stronger as a family”) into steps you can take to move forward in big and small ways (like “doing a kettlebell exercise four times a week” and “limiting phone use to after the kids are in bed”).

And you’re not stuck in the same goals month after month. Review and renew each month. Figure out what works, what doesn’t, what is changing, and what can stay the same.

Celebration

Something that helped me a lot was reviewing what worked well last month. It is so encouraging to see your process and celebrate it as you go! It surprised me how much I can ignore the good and only see failures, which made me abandon my goals that much faster. Celebration is an important part of the process.

Hope

Combined with all of the above, this process is infused with hope and encouragement. It’s not a task master, not simply a goal manager, but feels almost living and breathing in how it becomes part of your processing.

And hope comes from many sources – from the Cultivate What Matters team, to the FB community cheering you on. You’ll get a team of allies to help prompt you towards your goals.

The Deal

This is not a day planner. While this year it comes with a monthly calendar overview (!!), it’s not meant for you to schedule your appointments. I can do that on my phone.

No, this is completely geared towards helping you personally grow and reach your goals. And for me, it’s been transformative in that. Prior to PowerSheets, I abandoned my goals close to March. Ask me what they were in November. This year, I’ll be able to tell you.

The Goods

The 2020 PowerSheets have AMAZING, all-new features, including:

  • A hard cover in four beautiful shades/patterns (Pink, Teal, Blooms, and Confetti)
  • Gold coil binding and corners
  • An inside pocket
  • A monthly calendar overview (YES)
  • Even better coaching and new stickers

What’s so special about October 16, 2019?

October 16 is LAUNCH DAY. Here’s why that matters:

  • PowerSheets can and will sell out fast. Those raving fans and that strong community I mentioned will come out in force for 2020 PowerSheets. Best to jump on it as soon as possible at 10am that day. You might even want to create your own wish list.
  • The cover you want will sell out fast. Just re-iterating the importance of being prepared. If you have your eye on one in particular, you should be there bright and early to snag it! (I already ordered my Blooms print.)
  • Spend $100, and your order ships FREE. PowerSheets are $60, and you can add in fun bonuses, like extra stickers, bookmarks, postcards, journals, pencil cases, and more. I already ordered my PowerSheets, but I’m already eyeing the pretty washi tape and the Joyful Greeting Card set. You might even consider the (totally sellout-able) bundle packs.
  • You’ll be entered to win your order hand-delivered by members of the Cultivate team!

Check out the whole collection here. Again, what I’ve purchased is totally on my dime. It’s a significant investment for me, but I’ve seen the difference it makes, and I had no hesitation about jumping on board again for 2020.

The Bible contains all kinds of genres: storytelling, letters, prophetic literature—and yes, poetry, too.

It’s a startling fact when you’ve only read the Bible as being prescriptive. (Or even aimed directly at you.) God truly speaks in all kinds of languages to meet us where we are.

And then, so much poetry! My creative, contemplative heart is drawn to this. God is creative, emotional, deep, compassionate, and insightful.

What form of worship or biblical genre just speaks straight to you?

Women in the scriptures take bold, audacious action to do what is right and to further God’s purpose.

But this was the very first time I realized how Jesus included women in the narratives about the Kingdom specifically.

Women partner with God to bring about the Kingdom, on earth as it is in heaven. We’re part of the plan. Anyone who tells you your role is diminished in God’s eyes is not considering how Jesus spoke of and interacted with and commissioned women.

Maybe we’ve been going about this the wrong way.

I’m Jenn, and I’m just a girl, standing in front of the internet, baring my soul as I go through a faith, existential, identity crisis.

I’m only kind of joking 🤣

Here, we talk about the reality of messy, expansive, healing faith:
- life after spiritual burnout, change in beliefs or loss of faith community
- learning to take up space and be yourself
- mental, physical, and spiritual well-being
- everyday devotion
- good theology with healthy curiosity
- living like Jesus, not using his name to cause harm

Also: books, 90s/00s rom-coms, coffee, running, Swiftie fun, and pretty things, because balance 😄 I hope you stick around.
