Where do we draw the line? 〰️

Where’s the line between God’s provision and my proving?

I know I’ve crossed it when…

…my mind is racing, my body is tense, and I’m super impatient - can’t slow down, must keep doing.

…I’m begging for approval. Do you see me? Do you see what I can do?

…I can’t even stop to BE with God, even if I’m doing things FOR God.

…I can feel self-satisfied and self-sustained for a moment, but lasting peace is nowhere to be found.

When I think about producing and proving, I keep going back to the above Bible verses on growth. (Swipe to see.) They give credit where credit is due.

God is the one doing the hard work of producing a harvest of righteousness in us. We are being transformed by him (not ourselves) into Christ’s image. It’s not based on what we do but rather what he wants to do with us and within us.

This is the good news from Jesus: that we don’t have to do all the right things and make ourselves acceptable before God. He made it so nothing could get in the way of our relationship with God and his purpose for us. All that’s left is for us to abide and obey.

What if you aren’t an accident or a mistake?

What if the details that make up your personality - the things you love and hate, the roles and gifts you have and the heart behind them - were designed with intention by a Heavenly Father?

It took everything in me not to scream 😫

It was the middle of the night. Night number WHO-KNOWS-HOW-MANY of erratically waking up multiple times with a baby, or insomnia.

Meanwhile, I was still recovering from giving birth to said baby. There were meetings and laundry and appointments. A million ways life was moving on and I couldn’t catch up.

Not to mention what I wanted to do: find a consistent routine, give to my family, move my body, draw near to God, get myself back again.

But sleepless nights and no consistency left my mental health seriously struggling.

Then it hit me the other night, after some kind of switch flipped for baby, and she is sleeping through the night — I am finding some consistency and feeling like me again. Praise God 🙌

I needed these reminders at the time. Maybe you need these too — whether for waiting on news of a job or results or grades. Whether for being sick or grieving or working through conflict.

You have grace and space. And you have meaning in the meanwhile.

Did you know… 👀

…that the Greek word for “worry” is rooted in the word “merimna,” which means distracted or divided?

(That makes verses like “do not worry about your life” and “do not be anxious about anything” feel less overwhelming, right?)

Here’s the thing: we can’t fully engage with God and what he has for us when we are distracted or divided over what someone else has or does.

It’s like trying to ride a bike forward but looking at people walking on the sidewalk to the left across the street. You’ll go in the direction you’re looking. You’ll eventually crash.

This sound byte gets me because it actually IS pretty simple. Keep setting aside distractions. Don’t let your heart be divided. Keep you head forward and eyes ahead. Not just in your workout, but in life.

What God has for you is for you, and it won’t look like what he has for her. But believe me when I say that what’s for you is for your GOOD and his GLORY 🙌

When you can believe that, you’re free to cheer others on — and get back to your own good purpose.
