the balanced life sisterhood pilates membership review

September 23, 2020 · In: lifestyle, self care, wellness

Looking for a wellness program to fit your busy life? A review of The Balanced Life Sisterhood, Robin Long’s Pilates subscription website / membership community.

Access to the Sisterhood was provided to me complimentary in exchange for review. This post also contains affiliate links.

SIGN UP for the FREE 5-Day Pilates Challenge, Reset + Reset, with 5 15-minute workouts sent to your inbox from September 20-24, 2021! Leave stronger, more energized, and less stressed. No experience or equipment needed.

A major lesson that has come out of a tumultuous 2020 is this: the choices I make daily affect my overall wellbeing and mindset.

The habits I cultivate in response to challenges – my coping mechanisms – either build me up in a positive and peaceful way towards a balanced life, or leave me feeling even more wrecked and unstable.

Exercise is one of the things that is keeping me sane. But it takes intention – especially when I’m busy all day and my couch looks oh-so-inviting.

Enter The Balanced Life Sisterhood by Robin Long.

Robin’s Pilates subscription site and membership community, full of at-home workouts for women, appealed to me right away. With a heart for women’s wellness and the concept of “grace over guilt”, it felt like a good fit for me personally.

But honestly, even though I love Pilates, I hesitated.

Will it fit my lifestyle, or take up too much time? What if I’m not good at at it? Do I need a ton of special equipment? I’ll get to it when I can.

Fast forward to the beginning of this month, and Robin’s 5-day free Pilates challenge trial. One week? Fifteen minutes a day? I can do that!

From the first video, Robin won me over.

Too Busy to Work Out? This Community is for You! (text) Pilates

First of all, her sessions take place on the beach.

That’s my happy place. Instant zen and calm? You’ve got it.

Next, her approach to the workouts is calm, useful, and – I’ll just say it – not annoying.

She keeps her videos timely – no long, drawn out monologues or over-explanation. Just a friendly welcome, and straight into the program.

Throughout, she guides and gives gentle reminders as you move through the practice. That includes a reminder to go at your own pace, and modifications you can make if something isn’t working for you.

Let’s be real. When I’m making the time to work out, the last thing I want is to feel annoyed or pressured or overwhelmed by the person coaching me. (Because I’m usually cranky about working out to being with.) Robin makes you feel comfortable, isn’t condescending, and leaves you able to focus without distraction.

Finally, these are Pilates workouts for a busy life.

Making time to work out as a mom is hard, and I appreciate that Robin acknowledges that (as a fellow mom, of 4 kids). No matter what the reason, these are workouts you can fit into your day, which is important for developing consistency.

Instead of doing big workouts whenever I could (which usually meant every couple days, and took a lot of maneuvering), I could easily slip in a workout first thing in the morning or after the kids’ bedtime at night.

So basically, the Balanced Life is perfect for short effective workouts you can fit into your schedule.

The Bible contains all kinds of genres: storytelling, letters, prophetic literature—and yes, poetry, too.

It’s a startling fact when you’ve only read the Bible as being prescriptive. (Or even aimed directly at you.) God truly speaks in all kinds of languages to meet us where we are.

And then, so much poetry! My creative, contemplative heart is drawn to this. God is creative, emotional, deep, compassionate, and insightful.

What form of worship or biblical genre just speaks straight to you?

Most of these I found out the hard way. Thankfully God’s helping me set better boundaries, trust my Spirit-guided intuition, and not worry so much about people-pleasing anymore.

Not only that… Women in the scriptures take bol Not only that…

Women in the scriptures take bold, audacious action to do what is right and to further God’s purpose.

But this was the very first time I realized how Jesus included women in the narratives about the Kingdom specifically.

Women partner with God to bring about the Kingdom, on earth as it is in heaven. We’re part of the plan. Anyone who tells you your role is diminished in God’s eyes is not considering how Jesus spoke of and interacted with and commissioned women.

Maybe we’ve been going about this the wrong way.

What if the good news starts with God’s loving invitation? What if it’s not really about fear tactics?

Sitting with that this week.

I’m Jenn, and I’m just a girl, standing in front of the internet, baring my soul as I go through a faith, existential, identity crisis.

I’m only kind of joking 🤣

Here, we talk about the reality of messy, expansive, healing faith:
- life after spiritual burnout, change in beliefs or loss of faith community
- learning to take up space and be yourself
- mental, physical, and spiritual well-being
- everyday devotion
- good theology with healthy curiosity
- living like Jesus, not using his name to cause harm

Also: books, 90s/00s rom-coms, coffee, running, Swiftie fun, and pretty things, because balance 😄 I hope you stick around.
