spring fabfitfun box 2019 – worth it? review plus coupon code

You could say spring fever has hit Virginia. And our house.

There are days like Sunday, when there’s freezing rain and winter acts like it’s supposed to. And then the next day, it’s in the 50s. When those beautiful days happen, you drink them in for all they’re worth, because winter days are tough.

Suffice it to say – bring it on, Spring. I’ll take those temporary days, but I’m ready for you to commit.

Anyway, new seasons bring all kinds of fun things. One of my favorites is the FabFitFun box.

If you haven’t caught one of the videos in your Facebook feed, it’s a lifestyle subscription box curated with the best things to prepare you for the season. Including fashion, beauty, fitness, and more goodies.

There are two types of memberships: one box at a time, or annual subscription. Because I’m not an annual subscriber, I don’t get to pick what arrives in my box. So if you like to have some control in what you get, I recommend you become an annual member. (Plus an annual plan saves you a bit of cash, too!) If you like surprises, snag one box at a time.

Also, it’s $49.99 for the box – unless you use my code, ‘WHATYOUMAKEIT’, which scores you $10 off your first box. (It unfortunately doesn’t count towards annual subscriptions.)

$39.99 for the Spring 2019 FabFitFun box – is it worth it? Read on.

In every box:

Ouai Leave-In Conditioner (value $26) – This is a conditioner you spray on damp hair and leave on all day to smooth and soften hair. I would say it does have a really strong fragrance at first. I usually avoid fragrance in my products. BUT I was really amazed at the results – loved the how soft, smooth, and pretty my hair looked for the rest of the day. So I might stick this one out for a bit. (But Ouai, if you’re listening – a fragrance-free option, and you would be my hero!)

Dr. Brandt Skincare Needles No More No More Baggage Eye De-Puffing Gel (value $42) – This cooling gel comes out an alarming shade of reddish orange, but it actually acts to color correct dark circles. It also feels cool and lovely as you tap it on. This one actually has a majority of clean ingredients. I didn’t see a huge difference initially, but I’m going to keep on trying it. My under-eyes need all the help they can get!

Manna Kadar Champagne Body Scrub (value $24) – The champagne smells lovely and luxurious, and the Dead Sea minerals and charcoal scrub off that winter dead skin. Unfortunately I’m not a fan of the ingredients, which includes carbon black. I’m not planning on keeping this one.

All members have a choice for the following:

Unplug Meditation Aromatherapy Diffuser and Happy Essential Oil (value $55) (similar) – This handy diffuser is small and mighty. It would fit in any room, is easy to assemble, has a light-changing mode (that you can turn off if you prefer), and disperses scent pretty well. The Happy essential oil is a lovely citrus scent. I’ve been needing a diffuser, so this is great!

Other options: Show Me Your Mumu Brie Robe (value $84) or Deux Lux Demi Backpack (value $75)

Quay Australia My Girl Sunglasses in Black/Smoke (value $55) – These cat-eye sunglasses are oversized and ridiculously fun. They’re a bold style I probably wouldn’t have just ordered online. But in person? LOVE them. They’re a good fit for any shape face, including my square face, which is hard to find sunnies for.

Other options: Quay Australia Vivienne (Aviator) Sunglasses in Black/Smoke (value $60), Sunnylife Lovers Picnic Set in Malibu (value $30), or Korres Wild Rose Vitamin C Brightening Sleeping Facial (value $48)

Lavido Aromatic body Lotion in Mandarin Orange and Bergamot (value $19) – It has a lovely scent, but though it boasts organic ingredients, it also contains questionable ingredients. This one is a pass for me.

Other options: Giadzy Copper Plated Measuring Spoons (value $15) or Mystery Item (value $20+)

Annual members have a choice of the following:

S’ip by S’well Hot Cold Bottle (value $19.99) – I lucked out with this one, since I’ve been wanting one. I’m a sucker for a good water bottle. This stainless steel one keeps hot liquids hot, and cold ones cold. And it just happens to be a very springy peach with an adorable whale print. Keeper.

Other options: The2Bandits Athens Necklace (value $30) or Ciaté London Extraordinary Translucent Setting Powder (value $22)

EleVen by Venus Jump Rope (value $15) – FabFitFun’s cover girl is tennis star Venus Williams, who now has her own sport line, EleVen. At first, the jump rope reminded me of elementary school gym class. But Venus has a video on FabFitFun’s YouTube page with a jump rope exercise video, and it is legit!

Other options: Tula Purifying Face Cleanser (value $28) or Daily Concepts Daily Detox Brush (value $18)

All in all, my box is worth…drumroll please…$255.99!

My Overall Impressions

I feel a little disappointment in the beauty products. FFF usually includes one or two pretty clean products, ones without fragrance and keeping the questionable ingredients to a minimum. This Spring FabFitFun box has three beauty products that contain fragrance and other ingredients that don’t rank high with EWG’s Skin Deep database.

So, FabFitFun, please include more clean beauty products in your boxes!! I always love them when you do. (Some of my favorites? Grown Alchemist Exfoliator and Farmacy Eye Cream.)

That said, I am really happy with a lot of the items, like the Quay sunglasses, the diffuser, and the S’ip bottle. The eye gel is pretty clean, and I’m hoping will grow on me for more youthful eyes and less baggage. The jump rope remains to be seen!

Okay, Spring FabFitFun box. I’m feeling ya.

Even taking out the products I don’t love, this box is valued over $150. Plus, if I had been an annual member, I could have nixed some of the products I don’t want and gotten the ones I do. Again, being an annual subscriber has serious perks.

What do you think?

Do you like the Spring FabFitFun box? What would you pick with these options?

She’s not going back. Not back to fear-based di She’s not going back.

Not back to fear-based discipleship and checklist Christianity.

Not when Jesus actually said, “you will find rest for your souls” (Mt 11:29), and the scriptures tell us it’s the Spirit that allows us to be “transformed into his image with ever-increasing glory.” (2 Cor 3:18)

True story…one day I was in church and it felt l True story…one day I was in church and it felt like everyone was staring at me.

Everyone could see all the horrible ways I was failing and falling short, I just knew it.

My breathing became labored, panicked, and I shakily stood up right in the middle of the sermon and pushed my baby’s stroller outside.

That was the point at which I realized I needed help. I started biblical counseling, a place where I was lovingly encouraged to rethink some of the scripts that had been on replay in my mind, directed back to scriptures that actually weren’t meant to shame me.

Since then, I’ve been on a healing, expanding faith journey that looks so different than it used to. It’s brought more, darker and more challenging seasons but also so much freedom, so much grace, so much of a bigger and more beautiful worldview. My faith is only growing.

Are you on a journey like that? What prompted a shift for you?

Worship music doesn’t quite hit on grief the sam Worship music doesn’t quite hit on grief the same way as lyrics like,

“I do not find worthiness in virtue,
I no longer try to be good,
It didn’t keep me safe
like you told me it would”

You know what? I think it’s okay not to skip ahead to singing about victory. It’s okay to find language to express the season you’re in. (See the Psalms.)

In this season of re-evaluating my faith, here’s a sample of my de(and re)construction playlist:

Sympathy Magic - Florence + the Machine
Good News - Shaboozy
So Long London - Taylor Swift
Amen - Beyoncé
Lady Lady - Olivia Dean
Returning to Myself - Brandi Carlile
Vienna - Billy Joel

How about you? What would you add?

Stick around if you need a friend for when your faith shifts ❤️

We don’t talk about this part of de/reconstructi We don’t talk about this part of de/reconstruction enough:

our part in an unhealthy culture that promoted striving and shame over rest and grace.

For me, there were scriptures and good intentions, but also pride, insecurity, unrealistic standards, and simply, “this is just the way we do things.”

I’m sorry for the times I was led by people-pleasing and discipled by fear, and prompted others to do the same. I’m sorry for speaking before listening, and for caring more about keeping things status quo than having the hard conversations and seeing other perspectives.

When I wrote that sentence above years ago, I didn’t expect to end up leaving that community. It’s one of the most complicated, difficult things I’ve had to do, but one that was necessary.

If you’re grappling with complicated feelings about shifting and rebuilding your faith, I get it. Pull up a seat, and let’s keep the conversation going.
