2021 powersheets review: why goal planning still matters

October 10, 2020 · In: goals, inspiration, productivity, wellness

Here’s my 2021 PowerSheets review: your first look at this year’s Cultivate What Matters goal setting planner and Launch Day. Differences between the 2020 vs 2021 planner, and why goal setting still matters after the year that fell apart.

Goal planning. New Year’s Resolutions. Dreaming. Are we even still doing that for next year?

Yes. Yes, it’s still a thing. It’s still happening. Because even though this year went nothing like anyone expected, goals were actually achieved in 2020.

How is that even possible? A lot is owed to my PowerSheets, a goal planner system created by Lara Casey at Cultivate What Matters.

What is PowerSheets?

PowerSheets is not your average planner. It’s an empowering, grace-filled process that guides you from setting your intentions for the year, breaking them down into manageable steps, and re-evaluating as the year goes on. It comes with a community and a number of resources to help you reach your goals.

Two years ago, I ordered my first PowerSheets because I always would get to the end of the year and forget what my goals were when I started. And this book turned my year around. I was able to see measurable progress from when I started. You can read more about my first experience with PowerSheets here.

Two things you should know: I am not a planner. And I’m not quick to spend money on things I’m pretty sure I can figure out myself. If I thought I could be successful in my goal planning with any notebook, I’d do it.

Even with both those things considered, I am still a raving fan of PowerSheets.

How PowerSheets Works

Every book start the same way: with a full evaluation of where you’re at right now. Think of it as a personal life-coaching session to walk through how you’re feeling, what’s on your mind, and what’s important to you. I like to do this before New Year’s to help me focus and prepare.

One of the reasons PowerSheets is so helpful is that it starts with you thinking on a grand scale. Where do you want to be when you’re 80? Everything else you do should be getting you there, little by little.

From that overview, you break your bigger goals into annual ones. Then monthly sections help you chart your monthly, weekly, and even daily practical steps toward your goals. Quarterly reviews help you assess and adapt as needed. Included stickers are a fun way to celebrate progress.

2020 vs 2021 PowerSheets Review

2021 PowerSheets are above; 2020 PowerSheets are below in this picture.

In 2020, PowerSheets added a monthly calendar, which helped to get a big picture of what was ahead, and a hard cover, new gold coil binding, gold corners, plus an inside pocket.

The 2021 PowerSheets keep those same features, except the gold corners are rounded instead of sharp. They come in three linen fabric colors – Clear Skies, Pink Sunrise, and Sea Glass – as well as a smooth floral-and-lemon print called Citrus Garden. Last year I opted for the floral; this year I went for Clear Skies.

A huge change for this year is that the book overall is much smaller and lighter. The initial evaluation is fewer pages, as are the quarterly reviews. The overall feel and design is more modern and streamlined.

Another major new bonus for this year? Access to Goal School – a coaching membership with videos as an added resource to help you achieve your vision for the year.

What’s Included in PowerSheets

To sum up, here’s what you get when you purchase PowerSheets:

  • A life evaluation / coaching session to start your year right
  • Monthly worksheets and calendars
  • Quarterly “refreshes”
  • Stickers to celebrate progress
  • Goal School – video coaching
  • Private Facebook Community
  • Regular email updates, encouragement and freebies (I got a free homeschool planner from them that has helped us organize so much this year!)

Important to Know for Launch Day

2021 PowerSheets Launch Day is October 14 at 10am. If you have a specific color in mind, make sure you’re there early to snag the one you want. They sell out fast!

Also Launch Day means specials:

  • Free Domestic Shipping over $100
  • Free Gift with Purchase – a Blooms Collector pin
  • 50% Off the Ticket Price for Cultivate What Matters Live – an online video conference that will help you set up your planner and prepare for your best year yet

PowerSheets are $60, with a number of items you can add a la carte or as part of money-saving bundles. (I bought the accessory pouch last year for my pens, which has an elastic band that slips onto the cover of your PowerSheets.)

Are PowerSheets worth it? YES. They’re for you if you:

  • know what you want to see happen in life, but don’t know how to get there
  • don’t know where you want to do next week, much less when you’re 80
  • want to grow and have a better year this year than the last

These are for you. The system is 9 years old this year, and shows proven results when you put in the effort.

So how about you? Which features as part of this 2021 PowerSheets review stand out most to you, or would be the most helpful for you?

And I really want you to hear this part: God is n And I really want you to hear this part:

God is not punitive like people can be.
And to take one verse out of context instead of lining it up with God’s character and heart for you is to miss the whole thing.

I just want you to know if that if the scriptures have felt (or been used) like weapons and your system has processed them that way—God isn’t demanding and disappointed like that. Not every verse is aimed at you or meant to be taken literally.

Read in the context of who God is: compassionate, gracious, abounding in love and faithfulness. Read in the context of the whole Bible: God’s story of reconciliation and redemption and restoration of Creation.

Maybe relax your shoulders, take a deep breath, and know you are loved and covered in grace.

This trend, but about what happens when you ditch This trend, but about what happens when you ditch performance and perfectionism for grace-filled growth.

This is not a to-do list, by the way. Not a resume or test or a title. (Not, “you are now proclaimed holy”.)

These are, I’ve found, holy experiences that get revealed as you take steps along this faith journey. This is what it looks like when you’re settling in to the transformation that happens when you lean in to the Spirit, follow Jesus, and get to know God better. A settling of the soul.

What kinda holy experiences have you encountered on your own unique journey with God?

viewing stories of women in the scriptures with care and respect instead of making assumptions.

reading the Bible as God’s story, not morality tales about people.

recognizing that God cares about our wholeness and wellbeing, not perfect performance or self-improvement.

seeking depth and God’s withness over easy answers.
