ryla pack review: a chic diaper bag for two kids

May 22, 2019 · In: motherhood, shopping, sponsored, style

This post includes product provided for review and affiliate links.

Last year, after about four years of having at least one child in the infant phase, I finally made the transition to the mom that doesn’t need a gigantic diaper bag anymore.

And the future looked good. No more lugging a too-big bag around, full of solutions for every possible contingency. Like multiple changes of clothes for two kids, at least six diapers, bottles, snacks, drinks, blankets, toys, etc.

But what does the perfect bag for a mom of two look like?

It takes enough work to find a diaper bag that is chic and functional. Finding one for this in-between stage seemed like an even bigger challenge.

I came across RYLA on Instagram, and instantly fell for the look of their bag. However what really won me over was this: they had videos of their bag in all kinds of disastrous circumstances, and surviving unscathed. (My favorite was the one where the bag got run over by a car.)

And here we are, 9 months later.

About 8 months of using this bag day in and day out (see below). Months of packing and unpacking, of tossing in my car, of slinging it over my shoulder, of stuffing things in the pockets.

8 months of experience gives me a lot to say about it.

The Facts

RYLA packs are

  • made of vegan leather and gold hardware
  • lined with nylon on the inside
  • come in brown, black, and gray
  • functional, smaller backpacks
  • includes a main compartment, smaller front pocket, two side pockets, plus a hidden pocket on the back
  • includes a diaper changing pad and a wet bag
  • cost $139 each
  • available on the website, or through Amazon.

Returns

I’ve actually received two RYLA packs. With the first, the stitching on the top handle started unraveling just a day or two into using it.

Right away, I got in touch with RYLA, and they quickly worked to make it right. They set up a return, and while I did have to pay for shipping, they sent me a new bag, no problem.

Appearance

I love how simple and stylish this bag is. It’s not frilly or over the top. It’s minimal, fits my style and goes with most of my typical daily outfits. I don’t feel like I’m carrying a diaper bag.

Even through the many months that I have had this bag, it has no scratches or stains to be found on it, even on the bottom. No stitches unraveling. It looks as new as the day it arrived in the mail. It’s amazing. Also, the vegan leather is easy to wipe clean.

Size and Organization

As mentioned, this bag comes with an incredible amount of pockets.

  • The main compartment
  • A front pocket – just the right size for a phone, lip balm, and anything else small you need to grab
  • Two pockets on the sides, which I use for a water bottle for each of my boys
  • A flat back pocket, which honestly, I don’t use, but would be good to keep something extra secure

On the inside, you’ll find:

  • a zippered pocket
  • two open pockets, which are great for personal items
  • two insulated bottle pockets, which we don’t use for bottles, but are still useful for snacks

The main compartment is big enough to fit a few diapers, a big container of wipes, my wallet, keys, and other miscellaneous items.

Basically, I can fit all of my personal items as well as everything my toddler and preschooler need. I think this bag would have been a little too small for me to use with an infant, because I notoriously overpack. But this bag fits perfectly for both my boys.

Overall

After using this bag for 8 months, I can honestly say – I still love it. It’s my grab-and-go bag anytime I leave the house with the boys. It fits everything I need, and it still looks perfect after all this time.

So now you – what do you look for in a diaper bag?

I’m wildly jealous you’re out of that infant stage!!! Right now my backpack diaper bag looks like that of a hiker. A hiker going backpacking for 4-5 weeks alone in the woods. It’s unreal haha.

I’ll keep this one in mind when I can start carrying less around! haha

That is EXACTLY how it feels! You have to have everything!! Nothing wrong with that, because who has time to go all the way home for a missing pacifier? (Which I have bought on at least one excursion out because we didn’t have one and there was a screaming baby in the back.)

Serious eldest daughter millennial church kid ener Serious eldest daughter millennial church kid energy ✨ we lived for those gold stars.

But over time things changed. And what a relief it was to not have to forfeit peace to keep up the status quo, to learn how to have boundaries and cultivate integrity. To see the Bible as God’s story of reconciling with us.

I’m happily in my healing, expanding faith era. If you’re here too, leave your favorite star sticker (emoji) below and come grab a seat so we can chat more.

And I really want you to hear this part: God is n And I really want you to hear this part:

God is not punitive like people can be.
And to take one verse out of context instead of lining it up with God’s character and heart for you is to miss the whole thing.

I just want you to know if that if the scriptures have felt (or been used) like weapons and your system has processed them that way—God isn’t demanding and disappointed like that. Not every verse is aimed at you or meant to be taken literally.

Read in the context of who God is: compassionate, gracious, abounding in love and faithfulness. Read in the context of the whole Bible: God’s story of reconciliation and redemption and restoration of Creation.

Maybe relax your shoulders, take a deep breath, and know you are loved and covered in grace.

This is not a to-do list, by the way. Not a resume or test or a title. (Not, “you are now proclaimed holy”.)

These are, I’ve found, holy experiences that get revealed as you take steps along this faith journey. This is what it looks like when you’re settling in to the transformation that happens when you lean in to the Spirit, follow Jesus, and get to know God better. A settling of the soul.

What kinda holy experiences have you encountered on your own unique journey with God?

viewing stories of women in the scriptures with care and respect instead of making assumptions.

reading the Bible as God’s story, not morality tales about people.

seeking depth and God’s withness over easy answers.
