diy pallet board coat hanger

January 21, 2013 · In: uncategorized

When I saw some amazing pins on Pinterest about pallet board-usage, I couldn’t help but be inspired to try my hand at making my own pallet board coat hanger.

The day I told my husband I wanted to try this, we actually found a pallet by the side of the road: obviously a sign we should go forward ; ) We bought some wood sealer and white paint, and got to work.
Now, it’s a little complicated, so try to keep up : )
1. Paint the pallet with the sealer and let dry completely.
2. Paint the pallet with the paint and let dry completely.
3. Hang s-shaped hooks randomly all over the pallet.
4. Hang on the wall.
Seriously – it was that easy. We found the sealer and paint at the home improvement store nearby, and the s-shaped hooks at Walmart in the section with laundry supplies and clothing hangers. The sealer was important because the wood was porous and would have sucked in the paint without it (at least, that’s what the guy at the store said). It was white sealer, so we thought about just leaving it the way it was, but the paint added some shine.
I love how it came out. It’s one of the things we get a lot of compliments on, and people are surprised when they find out that we made it!

The really cool thing about it was that, although my hubby was a little hesitant about it at first, he was supportive, and we ended up having fun together working on our little DIY project together : ) Of course, we were making it the night before we moved, but it turned out awesome and was one of the first things we put up in our new home.
P.S. There are lots of awesome ideas for pallet boards online; check them out!

Hey there! Loved this so much, so I’m going to attempt my hand at it. What kind of sealer did you use? Did you sand the pallet? Thanks!

Honestly, I don’t remember! We just asked at the hardware store what they might recommend. I know it wasn’t a heavy-duty sealer – the guy there said it wouldn’t need much. And yes, we did sand the pallet! Good luck!

And I really want you to hear this part: God is n And I really want you to hear this part:

God is not punitive like people can be.
And to take one verse out of context instead of lining it up with God’s character and heart for you is to miss the whole thing.

I just want you to know if that if the scriptures have felt (or been used) like weapons and your system has processed them that way—God isn’t demanding and disappointed like that. Not every verse is aimed at you or meant to be taken literally.

Read in the context of who God is: compassionate, gracious, abounding in love and faithfulness. Read in the context of the whole Bible: God’s story of reconciliation and redemption and restoration of Creation.

Maybe relax your shoulders, take a deep breath, and know you are loved and covered in grace.

This trend, but about what happens when you ditch This trend, but about what happens when you ditch performance and perfectionism for grace-filled growth.

This is not a to-do list, by the way. Not a resume or test or a title. (Not, “you are now proclaimed holy”.)

These are, I’ve found, holy experiences that get revealed as you take steps along this faith journey. This is what it looks like when you’re settling in to the transformation that happens when you lean in to the Spirit, follow Jesus, and get to know God better. A settling of the soul.

What kinda holy experiences have you encountered on your own unique journey with God?

seeking depth and God’s withness over easy answers.
