You have probably seen ThirdLove ads – I know I do. Everywhere. On Facebook, on Pinterest – they are certainly present on social media.
Their biggest draw for me initially? A “live-in” bra trial period for 30 days that costs you only shipping if you decide not to keep it. Meaning, you can take off the tags, wash, and wear it up to 30 days.
That piqued my interest. 1. It’s getting difficult for me to find the right size and fit locally. 2. Who likes going to the store to try on bras anyway?
But I had other questions too: Are ThirdLove bras any good? Are they worth the price?
I mentioned on Instagram Stories that I was trying this service out, and people were curious. It’s not exactly typical of me to share my undergarments on the blog, but I’m happy to help people who are trying to make up their mind about it.
So today I’m sharing my (unsponsored) ThirdLove review!
Does the ThirdLove Quiz help you find the right fit?
First in the process, ThirdLove’s bra fit quiz is meant to help you discover the right size for you. And to get right to it – it’s actually amazing. It’s fast, and no measuring tape is necessary.
The size they recommend for me is different than the one I was wearing at the time, so I was a little nervous. But since Thirdlove offers free returns, I figured it was worth a try.
Ordering through ThirdLove
To do ThirdLove’s trial period of 30 days, make sure you pick “Try Before Buying”, instead of “Add to Cart”. If you don’t see that as an option, go down to the bottom of the page menu, and click “Try Before Buying”.
As far as I can tell, there’s only two options for bras you can try before buying – the 24/7 Classic Contour Plunge, and the 24/7 Classic T-Shirt Bra, both in just a few neutral colors. I opted for the t-shirt bra.
Enter your shipping and billing information on the cart page. Yes, you do need to give your billing information – you pay for shipping up front, which was just $2.99. (It has since been updated to $4.99.)
Also, they pre-charge the price of the bra to the card. For the t-shirt bra, it was $68. The charge does not go through until the trial period is over, if you have not opted to return it.
The Fit
I was so excited when the package arrived! I tried out the bra right away.
And shockingly – it fit, perfectly. I could hardly believe it.
First, there is no gaping anywhere. The seams sit on your skin like they are supposed to. Straps are adjustable; although like any bra, they need readjusting to keep from slippage. The fabric is comfortable and soft. It’s lightly lined, and it’s flattering, with no lines under clothing.
This is important, though – don’t rip the tags off right away. Try it on, wear it, move around in it a little, and see if it works. If it doesn’t, send it back ASAP and get a new size. Otherwise they will accept the returned bra, but you will be charged for a new one in a different size.
ThirdLove Trial Period Review
Initially, the fit was perfect. But after moving around in it, it felt uncomfortable, and I wasn’t sure the fit was right. The part where the straps connected to the cup started to dig into my skin and left red marks.
Right away, I contacted the “fit team”. And…crickets until a couple days later. I was disappointed in not hearing from them faster. In those days, I kept wearing the bra, because I really liked the initial fit and was hoping it would work out.
Eventually, even though I got a response, I kept trying the bra. The red marks subsided, and I actually liked the fit. Honestly I think the red marks were due to me not being used to the construction of the bra.
Communication
The communication was something I wasn’t completely satisfied with. The response from them was confusing. They stated that I could return the bra, but when I went to fill out the form, it said that by returning it I would be charged before being sent a new bra.
What? I specifically read that I could take the tags off and wear it and return it, with no charge but shipping.
It took some digging, and another email (which was returned more promptly). But finally I figured it out – the trial period is for keeping the bra you have, or returning it. It doesn’t really cover exchanges. If you choose to return it for a new size, the trial period ends, and you are making a purchase instead.
The cool thing is, you can always return a new purchase order (with tags on), for a complete refund for free. They will even send you a shipping label.
So either way (with a new purchase or try before buying), if you’re dissatisfied with the bra, you can return it for no strings. BUT the phrasing is confusing.
Lastly, the trial period ends without warning. Meaning I didn’t realize it was the end of the trial period until the charge showed up on our card. Womp womp. Set an alarm in your phone or make a note on your calendar that your trial period is ending, because you’re on your own. I think a follow-up email would go a long way here.
Overall ThirdLove Review
The start of the process is impressive to me. The bra fit quiz is easy, and dead-on.
The bra itself? It’s solid construction, definitely above average for fit in comparison to ones I could buy at the mall. It does take some getting used to, but ultimately it is super comfortable and fits great.
Since this post, I have bought three more from ThirdLove, in addition to this first one I purchased. They have completely replaced all my other bras, because the fit is just outstanding.
The company? They lose a couple points for that first communication and the explanation of the details. BUT they do offer good services (like the fit quiz and trial period), and quality products.
Also there’s another question – What does ThirdLove do with returned bras? It should be noted that bras returned from the “try before buying” program are washed and donated to women in need. That’s another reason to like ThirdLove – that’s a thoughtful way of paying it forward instead of creating more waste.
So what do you think?
For $4.99, would you give ThirdLove a try?
