quarantine activity bingo (free printable)

April 22, 2020 · In: home, life, motherhood

Let’s get real. When I created our preschool game plan and schedule, I didn’t expect us to really end up here.

7 weeks later, still in quarantine. No school for the rest of the school year, either.

I’ve run through my social distancing activities with my kids. Our schedule is fizzling out. (Although it still is a handy way to organize the day. Here’s another great routine starter for at home moms.)

This self-isolation with kids is wearing me out. I want to be able to go out again, to visit the library, to go to a museum, to have playdates.

BUT because I am fully on board with keeping as many people safe as possible, we will stay home and wait it out. And we’ll have fun and engage and enjoy our time as much as we can.

My goals for our current quarantine days are this: a little bit of learning, creating, and kindness/helpfulness, and not too much screen time in a day.

(No shame in my mom game, though. Educational apps, PBS Kids, and Disney+ are lifesavers, too.)

So lately, we’ve been incorporating things in, one activity at a time. And even though we seem to revolve around the same activities, my kids don’t seem to mind.

Some of them they even take on independently, leaving me a little mom breathing space to sip my coffee or check my email.

Today I’m sharing a simple free printable Quarantine Activity Bingo sheet.

Download PDF Here

This Quarantine Activity Bingo can be filled out daily, because it’s all activities you can do differently every time. Fill out one row or column. Or see how many total you can knock out in a day.

It can even be used as a chart to record your kids’ activities if you want them to earn a special treat, like screen time.

And bonus! They all contribute to some form of learning or character development.

Nature walks are a great way for your little scientists to observe the world around them and ask questions.

Board games become ways of counting and keeping track of numbers.

Making cards means learning how to be considerate of others (while practicing writing or drawing).

Baking is a little science, a little math, and a little kindness (if you want to share).

Hopefully it’s a fun way to shake up your days a little. I know that for moms, this quarantine is especially hard. Hang in there – we will get through this.

Now how about you?

Which parts of the Quarantine Activity Bingo will your kids love? What activities have been lifesavers for you during this time?

Maybe we’ve been going about this the wrong way. Maybe we’ve been going about this the wrong way.

What if the good news starts with God’s loving invitation? What if it’s not really about fear tactics?

Just the memory of this has me back in the moment, tense, cringing. The conversation that followed with my children who heard the condemnation I did looked a lot like this.

Follow along if you’re looking for more grace than shame in your faith journey.

These days I’m holding both: Both the ordinary These days I’m holding both:

Both the ordinary and the unprecedented-ness of it all.

Both the hurting and the healing.

Both the questions and the steadiness.

Always reaching towards the hope of better and the abundance of God. And the refusal to be defeated by the evil.

Just some thoughts lately.

Confession: I was *that girl*. The one who wore t Confession: I was *that girl*.

The one who wore those woven acronym bracelets like FROG (fully rely on God), rarely got in trouble, and had all the goodie-goodie Christian answers—only to grow up to be the one with all the questions.

Like why is purity culture so enforced in a system that also protects abusers?
Why did the promise of “my yoke is easy and my burden is light” feel so empty?
For all our emphasis on spiritual growth and training, why did we rarely talk about the Holy Spirit?

This past decade has been spent unraveling a tightly wound faith to find healing, expansiveness, delight, belovedness, and actual rest.

What you’ll find here:

- re-framing the scriptures through a lens of grace not shame
- laying down spiritual checklists, platitudes, behavior modification, and masks
- following the actual way of Christ, not the nationalist version
- pursuing wholeness not perfection
- drawing near to the God of compassion and grace
- getting to know the Holy Spirit through spiritual rhythms and practices
- finding empathy, integrity, and gentleness that leads to authentic living
- conducting some holy disruption with the fiery spirit of the women who came before us

If you’re in the messy middle and need an authentic friend to help you process it (not disciple you out of it), stick around ❤️

If you still remember the answer that won or lost If you still remember the answer that won or lost you that Bible Bowl Championship, how’s your deconstruction going? 🫠

(The one that lost me the Bible Bowl that one year? Simeon, not Simon.)

It’s okay, we’re all just figuring it out over here. But you don’t have to do it alone. ❤️

And here’s what else is wild…let me start at t And here’s what else is wild…let me start at the beginning…

While I was taking a break from social media (hi! By the way), I’ve been taking a class on good and evil. Meanwhile it seems like evil’s winning: people causing harm, relishing it, getting away with it, permitting it.

Evil isn’t some vague spiritual force or superstition.
Sin isn’t just socially unacceptable behavior.

Listen close: God’s intent is for all of creation to be whole and flourish. Evil is causing suffering, brokenness and harm - death and cursing where there was meant to be life and blessing.

HERE’S THE WILD PART: in learning about evil, I’m only seeing more of the goodness of the God who wants good for us. Devastation happens when we twist God’s Word, deviate from the plan, and take for ourselves, harming others in the process.

It was never meant to be that way.

What will we do about it?

👉🏼 If these are conversations you want to have—particularly about God’s goodness, grace and growth over behavior management and right answers—stick around. Let’s talk more.
