babymoon: what to pack

June 25, 2014 · In: uncategorized

I tend to overpack, but when it came to getting ready for the babymoon, I knew I wanted to keep it simple. Sure, we were going to a resort, but I wasn’t trying to get fancy. I stuck to some simple, mix-and-match basics, and added comfy shoes and beach gear.

Clothes: This post is secretly brought to you by Old Navy (they just don’t know it yet – you guys can mail me a gift card or something) 😉 I LOVE their maternity section. Not just for price and style (which are great), but their clothes also just fit me and my bump better.

– 2 Old Navy scoop-neck, slug-knit tees
 – 2 Old Navy maternity rib-knit tanks
– 1 Old Navy maternity maxi skirt (mine is chevron striped)
– 1 cute black and white polka-dot tankini from Motherhood
(although I can’t find it online. The one above is Old Navy, which I also can’t find online. Argh!)
– 1 pair of floral lounge cotton shorts from Belk, as a cover-up
– 3 pairs of maternity shorts (Motherhood has great ones)
– 1 Liz Lange maxi dress from Target
– A t-shirt and yoga pants for pajamas
– A white cardigan

And that was pretty much my uniform. Things I brought that I didn’t use: a polka dot pencil skirt, and a sleeveless top, and a light jacket

Note: I did wear a lot of long sleeves and long skirts at night – protecting from the mosquitoes without having to slather myself in DEET.

Shoes: I brought three pairs of shoes, and loved and used them all. Hands down, best shoe decisions I’ve ever made for traveling.

– Sanuk Yoga Slingshot flip flops – the soles are made of YOGA MATS, people. Best ever. Plus the rest is fabric – no more blisters between your toes. Wore these every day to the beach.
– Crocs Kadee flats – I used to be a Croc-hater, but when they came out with this style, and I tried them on, I was hooked. So, so, so comfortable. And waterproof. And they don’t look like Crocs.
– Ked’s Shine boat flats – I wore these for traveling. Their cushy soles were perfect for the chilly airports and lots of walking.

Beach: I brought the basics.

– Book: Wild by Cheryl Strayed. It didn’t end up being all PG-rated, which was kind of frustrating, but her tales about life on the trail were so absorbing and fascinating.
– Sunscreen. I brought a terrible “sport sunscreen spray” that was 30 SPF. Were I to go back and change things, I’d get the Coola SPF 50 spray, since it’s organic and would have protected us better. Or some kind of lotion, although I don’t love lotion sunscreen.
– My extra-large LL Bean Boat and Tote (mine’s pink and a zip-top) – perfect for a ginormous personal item for the airplane, as well as a beach bag
– Sunglasses
– Lots of Dasani bottled water

Other: toothbrush and paste, some great Burt’s Bees facial cleansing wipes, hand sanitizer, travel-sized bug spray, another book and my Bible, pre-natal gummy vitamins, and a small cross-body purse

This trend, but about what happens when you ditch This trend, but about what happens when you ditch performance and perfectionism for grace-filled growth.

This is not a to-do list, by the way. Not a resume or test or a title. (Not, “you are now proclaimed holy”.)

These are, I’ve found, holy experiences that get revealed as you take steps along this faith journey. This is what it looks like when you’re settling in to the transformation that happens when you lean in to the Spirit, follow Jesus, and get to know God better. A settling of the soul.

What kinda holy experiences have you encountered on your own unique journey with God?

Not to be dramatic, but… Everything changed when Not to be dramatic, but…
Everything changed when I started:

viewing stories of women in the scriptures with care and respect instead of making assumptions.

reading the Bible as God’s story, not morality tales about people.

recognizing that God cares about our wholeness and wellbeing, not perfect performance or self-improvement.

seeking depth and God’s withness over easy answers.

Does this feel like I’m reading your mail? (I’m not.) Stick around. Here we talk about rebuilding your faith and theology and Bible study without shame and shrinking ❤️

A turnaround story. This little detail now stands A turnaround story.

This little detail now stands out to me in a way I can’t ignore. God is in the business of drawing us near.

For Moses, the journey included miracles, facing down his own demons, and growing in trust and confidence.

What does the journey look like for you? In what ways has your trust and confidence in God grown?
