7 empowering amy poehler quotes

March 10, 2016 · In: career, life, productivity

Not long ago, I read Yes Please by Amy Poehler, and was amazed. I’d read Is Everyone Hanging Out Without Me? by Mindy Kaling, which was funny and poignant, and I totally heard it in her voice the whole time.

I figured Yes Please would be the same way. It was funny, as expected. I was entertained by the behind-the-scenes SNL action. And I was touched by her personal stories. But the thing that really shocked me was how empowering Amy’s words were. She’s clearly been through a lot recently, but shared it in both a vulnerable and confident way that showed that it has shaped her into who she is.

She also comes from the perspective of a successful woman in a fast-paced, high-powered environment, making her an incredible role model both personally and professionally. She’s pretty much my spirit animal.

While I didn’t love all the parts of the book (some of it was rated R; read at your discretion), I just appreciate her attitude of getting things done, without stopping to worry about what people think or what others choose to do. That’s always something I’m working on.

I’ve prepared 7 empowering Amy Poehler quotes from the book below, to keep or share for a little wisdom and inspiration for the everyday woman.

Yes, such a good book! I had a similar reaction – I loved her funny essays and behind-the-scenes moments but I really was impressed and influenced and encouraged by her thoughts on being a woman. Love the quotes you pulled.

I totally agree! That story on when she had to apologize to the girl from that episode of SNL both broke my heart and increased my respect for her tenfold.

viewing stories of women in the scriptures with care and respect instead of making assumptions.

reading the Bible as God’s story, not morality tales about people.

recognizing that God cares about our wholeness and wellbeing, not perfect performance or self-improvement.

seeking depth and God’s withness over easy answers.

A turnaround story. This little detail now stands A turnaround story.

This little detail now stands out to me in a way I can’t ignore. God is in the business of drawing us near.

For Moses, the journey included miracles, facing down his own demons, and growing in trust and confidence.

What does the journey look like for you? In what ways has your trust and confidence in God grown?
