3 cozy layers to live in this winter

December 12, 2018 · In: lifestyle, shopping, style

Recently I posted in my Instagram Stories that cozy is my number one life goal right now. Looking back, that may be a little too extreme. But also, pretty much. I want to be cozy all the time – warm, comfortable, drinking in all these family moments (and hot cocoa, too). I think I managed to make it work for Thanksgiving outfits, but now that there’s snow outside, it’s serious.

These layers make my cozy dreams come true. They’re soft, versatile, and two out of three are toasty warm (while the other one goes great with a comfy sweater). I haven’t yet invested in anything “sherpa” or “teddy” but I wouldn’t mind it if one of those jackets appeared under my Christmas tree.

Anyway, here are my three favorites. Together, these three should get you through the winter. (They’re getting me through mine, and like I said, life goals.) I found all of these through either ThredUp or Poshmark, so you can go that route, or you can get them directly from the source with the links below.

Terry Hoodie

This is the epitome of all that is cozy and warm and good. I’ve been wearing it every day (check my Instagram Stories if you don’t believe me). This is the perfect dress up, dress down cardigan to wear with everything. Am I being emphatic enough?

Also if you’re looking for something as cozy as a teddy coat, but maybe not quite so fluffy, this sweatshirt cardigan is just ideal. Plus, pockets.

Blush Cocoon Cardigan

My obsession with cardigans is real. This one is incredibly soft and helpfully long. It’s a cocoon shape, which is nice and flattering. And I love the subtle pop of color that blush brings. It really goes with almost anything.

I’m linking a similar one by the same brand, only it’s ribbed. (Nordstrom, bring back the original knit, please!) I would definitely get a few of these. Did I mention they’re incredibly soft? Also, it has pockets.

Plaid Oversized Blazer

I’ve jumped aboard the oversized blazer bandwagon, and it is a popular place for a reason. It makes for an instant pulled-together look without being stuffy. Wear with jeans or a dress.

And what print? This one is houndstooth, but try any plaid, or even a solid color. A tartan would be nice for Christmas. I’ve linked a whole bunch to choose from.

So which one of these is the perfect fit for you?

Mine didn’t. Actually what I found was… …th Mine didn’t. Actually what I found was…

…that I have had seasons of “deconstruction” my whole life: reassessing my faith and making my beliefs my own. Not my family’s, not my ministry leader’s, not my church’s.

It’s a continuing journey, and every time God has put me face to face with an even bigger chasm to cross.

But can I tell you another truth? It keeps resulting in expanded, more joyful, more solid ground.

My questions haven’t been the end of my faith. It’s all part of the journey of growing closer to God.

By the way, I’m Jenn. If you’re in the messy middle, stick around. Let’s talk more about finding a healing, evolving, expansive faith.

We have a small container of dirt on our porch. We have a small container of dirt on our porch.

Dirt, and the teeniest, tiniest strawberry seeds.

Sometimes it feels silly to keep watering that thing when there hasn’t even been a shoot of green. But we do.

If you’re still waiting to see what’s going to happen, keep watering. Leave a ❤️ or 💧 if this connects for you (or leave your own story of something growing, plant or otherwise).

I don’t know if anyone has ever told you, but it’s okay for you to re-evaluate your faith and it’s okay for you to change your mind. God invites us to wonder, wander and wrestle.

Not back to fear-based discipleship and checklist Christianity.

Not when Jesus actually said, “you will find rest for your souls” (Mt 11:29), and the scriptures tell us it’s the Spirit that allows us to be “transformed into his image with ever-increasing glory.” (2 Cor 3:18)

True story…one day I was in church and it felt l True story…one day I was in church and it felt like everyone was staring at me.

Everyone could see all the horrible ways I was failing and falling short, I just knew it.

My breathing became labored, panicked, and I shakily stood up right in the middle of the sermon and pushed my baby’s stroller outside.

That was the point at which I realized I needed help. I started biblical counseling, a place where I was lovingly encouraged to rethink some of the scripts that had been on replay in my mind, directed back to scriptures that actually weren’t meant to shame me.

Since then, I’ve been on a healing, expanding faith journey that looks so different than it used to. It’s brought more, darker and more challenging seasons but also so much freedom, so much grace, so much of a bigger and more beautiful worldview. My faith is only growing.

Are you on a journey like that? What prompted a shift for you?
